Two Rohingyas were sentenced to four years in prison each on April 23 in Buthidaung court for going to Yaung Chaung market in Buthidaung Township from Rathedaung Township to buy cattle, said a relative of one of the victims.

The victims were identified as Md. Sultan (38), son of Roshon Ali, hailing from Zu Pyin village and Abul Khair (39), son of Abdul Latif from Zu Pyin village. Both of them belong to Rethedaung Township, Arakan State, he added.

They went to Yaung Chaung market in Buthidaung Township on April 22 to buy cows after acquiring necessary documents from the concerned authorities. In the market they were surveying cows to buy. Meanwhile, a section of policemen asked why they had come to the market. The two men showed their documents from Rathedaung Township.

Rathedaung and Buthidaung townships are neighbouring towns in Arakan State. Many people in Rathedaung Township go to the Yaung Chaung market in Buthidaung on market days.

The two were arrested and taken to Buthidaung police station on the allegation that they were trying to go to Bangladesh.

On April 23, they were produced in Buthidaung court and were sentenced to four years in prison each, said a police source in Buthidaung town.
