Industrial Relations: Swedish nurses strike hits hospitals

Swedish nurse and health professionals went on strike yesterday for higher wages after negotiations broke down between employers and the Swedish Association of Healthcare Professionals.

This is the first major strike in the sector for over a decade in Sweden and it has affected more than 50 hospitals and healthcare centres. Some emergency wards had to be closed and hundreds of operations had to be cancelled.

The Swedish Association of Health Professionals is demanding a 14 percent wage increase over two years.
