Georgia: Georgia denies talk of war

A Georgian parliamentarian has denied reports that Georgia could start military campaign against Abkhazia.

Givi Targamadze, head of the Georgian parliamentary defense and security committee, was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying: "These statements only indicate that Russia is prepared to resort to extreme measures to unleash a war in Georgia. We are not planning any military operations" .

"The international community should understand that the danger of aggression is emanating from Russia and take every measure to safeguard Georgia from provocation in the separatist regions," Targamadze said. Tbilisi "is ready to counter any aggression," he added.

The Georgian Interior Ministry said no extra troops have been brought into the Kodori Gorge and the Zugdidi district, which borders on Abkhazia.
