Burma: Ambassadors from six countries visit Burmese refugee camps

Six ambassadors of foreign counties and high commissioners of - Australia, Canada, Norway, Japan, Switzerland and France - along with country representatives of Dhaka, heads of Cox's Bazaar UNHCR office, other field-level staff of UNHCR and Upazilar Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Teknaf and Ukiya visited Burmese official and unofficial refugee camps yesterday, said a Majee (shed leader) from Nayapara camp on condition of anonymity.

They first went to the Kutupalong camp in the morning and then visited Nayapara camp, at about 11 am. They later visited Dum Dum Meah (Tal), unofficial or unregistered camp to survey their living standard, condition of the sheds and education system. They were also accompanied by refugee relief and repatriate committee officer. After observing the situation in the camps they returned to their destinations.

According to refugees, recently, some refugees from Tal were transferred to a new place which is set up in the northern side of the existing Tal camp.

Strong security was put in place by joint forces such as--- the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), armed police, Anser and police so that no one could approach them, said a Majee from the official camp.

According to other sources, this year, donation will increase for different projects.
