Goodnight from Sydney: A dollop of Omo

Looks a nice spot doesn't it? Nice and quiet. A pleasant place to pass the time late Saturday afternoon.

Don't you believe it.

I thought I was safe - I really did. No one and nothing in sight.

At least at that moment.

Then it happened.

From the right of the picture came two women - with two dogs.

Dogs like swimming in the river but around here, they also like telling complete strangers they like swimming in the river. Sure enough after doggy-paddling around for a few minutes, they jumped out of the water, up the wet sandy bank - and leaped straight on my legs with unabandoned glee.

But it doesn't stop there. Dogs in my suburb are pretty cluey. They can sense when an unsuspecting stranger is wearing a pair of freshly washed trousers. They never seem to jump on you when your jeans are just about ready for a wild spin with a dollop of Omo.

I don't really mind. It's a small price to pay to have such a beautiful spot just a hop-skip-and-a-jump, away from me. As I walk everywhere, it doesn't cost me a cent - except of course - a dollop of Omo.

Wherever you may be - be safe
