Youth Issues: Youth project builds 1,100 bridges in Vietnam

A youth-run bridge-building project has concluded with a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City.

Hosted by the central committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the ceremony celebrated the success of the project, which aimed to eradicate bamboo bridges and build more bridges in and around the Cuu Long ( Mekong ) Delta.

With 2001 to 2002 as trial years, followed by five years of implementation, the project succeeded in building more than 1,100 bridges in 489 communes in 15 provinces of the Mekong Delta region.

Of the total cost of 180 billion VND (11.3 million USD), the Government provided 84 billion VND (6 million USD) with the rest donated by enterprises, social organizations, local residents and Youth Union members.
