Nepal: Nepali PM rejects idea of Republic

Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, has said it is "impossible" to accept the demand of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) to announce republic from the parliament and to implement it with immediate effect.

During his discussion with senior leaders of his party Nepali Congress in Kathmandu Saturday morning, Koirala "rejected" the Maoist proposal saying that is it against the spirit of the agreements reached earlier, and the existing constitutional provisions, reported nepalnews.com website.

According to the website, leaders attending the discussion quoted Koirala as saying that Nepali Congress would remain against announcing republic immediately and adopting fully proportional election system.
