Gerry, do you watch 'The Bill'? I do - at least I did until they changed the damn thing and turned it into a soap opera. All that seems to be missing these days are shots of hubby's breakfast cereal and his good wife hanging out the smalls. It was a good program 'The Bill'. Pretty realistic too. Even the best planned operations often went "pear shaped".
You would know about that wouldn't you Gerry, because that is what is happening to you right now. It is all going pear shaped.
The pages in your Holy Address Book, that you once turned with smug satisfaction, are now turning against you. Name after name, distancing themselves from you, until in the not too distant future, the only ones you will have left will be the spray-on sun tan parlour and the Chinese takeaway.
I wouldn't be surprised if this whole affair has caused a lot of embarrassment in places once associated with rolled up umbrellas and bowler hats. You Gerry, are not the only member of a Mutual Protection Society. Tasteless T shirts and wrists bands, have ensured your pension - others have to protect theirs.
What about Clarence - I doubt you will get too much help through his contacts any more. I reckon they get on better with the Portuguese than they do with the Man In Pink. He seems to have become something more than just a spokesperson for you and the missus. I know he has in the past, been described as a good family friend - but just how good a friend has he become since he joined you after your Gunfight at The OK Corral, with Justine?
Maybe I am not alone in thinking Mitchell soon identified with the McCanns more than one would expect. It wouldn't surprise me if his name has been crossed off quite a few Christmas card lists.
Was that the problem with Justine perhaps? The Lady was not for turning.
What a pity Mitchell wasn't in the Algarve on the night of Madeleine's disappearance; never mind, he didn't take too long to jump on a plane. Hindsight is a marvellous thing, but absolutely no bloody use at all. Perhaps more than a few people are now wishing they hadn't been so keen to jump aboard a vehicle that was to turn into an uncontrollable, run away train.
While we are on the subject of Clarence, he has been very quiet lately. His silence seems to coincide with Anthony Bennett attempting to launch a private prosecution against you.
As I suggested this back on Aug 24, you can imagine I am more than happy to provide any assistance. All my articles will be made freely available, plus selected additional information I may have. I am sure most of the members of this blog will also be happy to give me permission to make their posted responses available to Mr Bennett.
Ironic isn't it Gerry? For the last few months, Team McCann has been threatening to sue every man and his dog and now the threat has turned against you. Clarrie's silence on this matter speaks louder than a thousand words - especially if most of those words happen to bloody "ludicrous."
I will leave you in peace for a couple of days Gerry, things to do, people to talk to - you know how it is old chap. But one last thought.
Carl Bernstein of Watergate fame is in Sydney. At the Jewish National Fund's champagne brunch, he accused fellow journalists and the public of no longer making the search for truth a priority.
That may be true in many cases.
But not when it involves an innocent little girl, who continues to be used and exploited by the tainted and the tarnished.
