Japan is to donate $1.3 million to a U.N. project designed to bring maternal health services to Sudan. The Sudan Tribune reports the aid would be channelled through the United Nations Secretariat and go toward a U.N. Population Fund project in the Nuba Mountains region of south-central Sudan.
A statement by Japan's Foreign Ministry said the program trains midwives on family planning methods and provides basic obstetric care.
The latest donation adds to $100 million Japan has donated to various projects in Sudan.
