Trade: Honduras to oppose EU banana tariffs

Honduras is to oppose a European Union proposal for a tariff on Latin American Banana exports to the EU. Latin American countries, including Honduras, claim the tariff is too high.

Dacio Castillo, Honduran ambassador to the WTO, said: "We will contest it. We are really worried that this could have huge socio-economic consequences in our country".

It is estimated that the tariff could affect up to $1.45 billion of banana imports.
