Youth: Not every picture tells the story - the dark side of North Korea's card sections

We have all seen those displays at various sporting events where sections of the crowd hold up cards to form an image, word or slogan.

In North Korea "card sections" have been popular since the 1950s. However, such displays do have their dark side. Song Young Eon, Editorial Writer for donga.com reports that The Daily NK, (a website focusing on North Korea), published "vivid" testimony from North Korean defectors about the card sections.

Students suffer bleeding noses during practice due to fatigue, and are beaten for missing their cue. Many children also suffer from bladder inflammation because they are not allowed to go to the bathroom for prolonged periods.

It seems that not every picture tells the real story
