Trade: Alleged Al Qaeda links force Malawi to cancel deal with Saudi company

Malawi has cancelled a $30 million-dollar fertiliser deal with an unnamed Saudi Arabian company that is alleged to have links to Al Qaeda. Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe told parliament that Citibank had refused to deal with the because of the alleged connections.“

Poverty stricken Malawi, wants to import over 100,000 tonnes of fertiliser to give to poor farmers and research by a team of government officials, identified Saudi Arabia as the cheapest source.
