Human Resources: Filipino workers in Iraq scared to return home

The Bahrain Tribune reports that over 6,000 Filipino workers in Iraq have been told by the Philippine government, they would not be allowed to return to their jobs even if their employers renew their contracts.

Most Filipino workers work in US military camps and have not returned home for the past two years because they are scared of losing their jobs after the Philippine government imposed a ban on the deployment of Filipinos to Iraq in July 2004.

The government has repeatedly urged Filipino workers to leave Iraq, but many refuse because of the higher pay and lack of employment opportunities back home.
